Cancer Institute (WIA)

The Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai, also known as Adyar Cancer Institute is the pioneer in population-based cancer registration (PBCR) and hospital-based cancer registration (HBCR) in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is also the State Cancer Institute recognized by the governments of India and Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project (TNCRP) is based at the institute since 2012 and is a joint study on cancer surveillance with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu. Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (DPH&PM)

The DPH&PM was instrumental for getting the G.O. declaring cancer as a notifiable disease in the state of Tamil Nadu since year 2018 through the Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project (TNCRP). The Joint Director (NCD) is the designated nodal officer for cancer notifications from all data sources both in government and non-government sectors. This online portal will be helpful for coordinating home-based services for cancer patients by DPH&PM including follow up. Directorate of Medical Education (DME)

The medical colleges and allied hospitals under DME throughout the state of Tamil Nadu form the fulcrum of data sources on new cancer patients from government sector. This includes departments of surgical, medical and radiation oncology OPDs, in-patient wards, pathology and medical record to name a few. Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS)

The district headquarter, taluk and non-taluk hospitals and other medical institutions under DMS throughout the state of Tamil Nadu form an important source of data collection on new cancer patients for Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project (TNCRP). National Health Mission Tamil Nadu (NHM-TN)

NHM-TN is the chief advisory body on integrating the TNCRP data with cancer screening and early detection data in the state of Tamil Nadu. TNCRP is a joint study on cancer surveillance by the Cancer Institute (WIA) and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu. ICMR National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR)

NCDIR is located in Bengaluru and is a National institution under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP) is its flagship activity networking numerous population-based and hospital-based cancer registries throughout the country. It is an important source of data on new cancer patients, especially from hospitals outside Tamil Nadu, for TNCRP.
