Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project (TNCRP) is a collaborative study by the Cancer Institute (W.I.A) and the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoH&FW), Government of Tamil Nadu for statewide cancer surveillance since year 2012.

Issue of G.O. (Ms) No. 132 dated 17.04.2012 by Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare department approving data collection by the Cancer Institute (W.I.A) for the Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project (TNCRP)

2013 

Formal inauguration of the Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project for state wide cancer surveillance by the then honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.


2018 

Issue of G.O. (Ms) No. 66 dated 22.02.2018 by Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare (EAP II-1) department declaring cancer as a notifiable disease in the state of Tamil Nadu.

2020

Publication of the first report on cancer incidence and mortality in Tamil Nadu (2012-2016) and estimates for 2017-2020.

2022 

TNCRP data was accepted for publication in WHO-IARC Scientific Publications series titled Cancer Incidence in Five Continents Vol XII.

2023 

Development of an online portal for notifying incident cancer cases to the Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project (TNCRP) and monitoring realtime.

The Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai, also known as Adyar Cancer Institute is the pioneer in population-based cancer registration (PBCR) and hospital-based cancer registration (HBCR) in the state of Tamil Nadu.
